If one shows up and we're doing so little testing, how many are we missing?Madalene Axford Murphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03235658024108740972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6545777296990237609.post-15432276012538497742012-04-27T20:03:42.545-04:002012-04-27T20:03:42.545-04:00Umm....but menopausal cows are turned into hamburg...Umm....but menopausal cows are turned into hamburger....when they can no longer give milk, or their milk production is reduced, they are then put into the food chain....I got this from the dairyman's mouth when I was doing an exhibition on Dairying for the New Britain Youth Museum.

I'm not worried about it....but...and yes, Kathy, you are correct about the feed.

L.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15140675211931598431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6545777296990237609.post-75549299167738246162012-04-27T14:26:39.671-04:002012-04-27T14:26:39.671-04:00Hi Cäcilia -- yes, it's BSE also but we mostly...Hi Cäcilia -- yes, it's BSE also but we mostly call it mad cow disease. I'm not sure about what our regulations say about putting animal parts into animal feed. I think the ground up bones are illegal, but apparently some other animal material is still allowed, such as blood in "milk replacer" fed to newborn calves.kathynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6545777296990237609.post-33483617438780196792012-04-27T12:05:23.515-04:002012-04-27T12:05:23.515-04:00Kathie, is this "Mad Woc Deseace" the eq...Kathie, is this "Mad Woc Deseace" the equivalent of the Bovine spongiforme Enzephalopathie? This was called BSE here in Switzerland or Rinderwahn in Germany. The only thing that helped over here, was testing the animals before slaughtering and eliminating all affected animals plus burning the carrcass after killing. In addition all "boneflour" grinded bones from slaughtered animals, was banned from feeding!!! to the cows, at least in Switzerland but most probably in whole Europe. These days they even talk about banning soi from feeding to milkcows because studies showed it does not bring much more milk per cow. They rather want to feed the poeple then waste it on animals!Cäciliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11333640133702103260noreply@blogger.com
